For the past 18 years, journalist and chef Kim O'Donnel has dispensed cooking advice at numerous publications, including The Washington Post and USA Today. The first Meatless Monday blogger on record, Kim is a known authority on the continuing trend of eating less meat for health and environmental reasons. As a first-generation Web journalist, Kim successfully married her two passions -- writing and cooking -- and has earned a national reputation for helping readers make sense of the myriad complicated food issues affecting Americans today and inspiring home cooks to return to the kitchen.

A graduate of the Institute of Culinary Education and The University of Pennsylvania, Kim is the founder of Canning Across America, a collective dedicated to the revival of preserving food. Kim was a 2009 Duncan Eat-Write fellow at The Writer’s Colony at Dairy Hollow in Eureka Springs, Ark. She sits on the James Beard Journalism Awards committee. Her work has been featured in the anthology Best Food Writing in 2013 and 2014.

Born and raised in the Philadelphia area, Kim presently lives in Seattle, where she’s lucky to have egrets and seals for neighbors. She is married to political junkie and journalist Russ Walker.

Kim eats meat, just not as much as she used to. That’s her story, and she’s sticking to it.
